Following the success of the 2017 conference in Amsterdam in March, Global Engage is looking to host the 6th Plant Genomics and Gene Editing Congress Europe in Holland on the 23rd and 24th April 2018. Global Engage had great feedback from the 300+ attendees at 2017’s meeting and is looking forward to growing and improving the event for 2018.

Plant research and its associated technologies have improved dramatically over the last 5 years as a result of the revolutionary breakthroughs including new gene editing technologies and reduction in the cost of sequencing. Many plants have now been successfully sequenced and a wide range of biological data sets made available. As a result, plant scientists are now more than ever making use of state of the art technology platforms to help explain biological principals, advance research and therefore enable benefits such as crop improvement / breeding etc. by harnessing the greater understanding of plant genomes and our conference is the perfect place to find out more about these methods and systems to advance your own research.

Attracting experts working in all areas of plant science, the event will examine the latest in gene editing methods as well as exploring developments in NGS and omic technologies being used for progressing plant based research in aspects such as crop trait development, epigenetics, phenotyping, plant microbiome, and disease resistance as well understanding tools to overcome bottlenecks and enable successful data analysis and management.

The scope and breadth of the Plant Genomics Congress is exemplified by these outstanding speaker presentations:
- JONATHAN JONES, Resistance (R) gene enrichment sequencing (Renseq) to investigate and exploit R gene diversity
- NEAL GUTTERSON, Targeted breeding applications of CRISPR-Cas technology for European markets
- JANE PARKER, Professor, Department of Plant-Microbe Interactions, Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research, Germany: Plant intracellular immunity networks
- ANGELA SESSITSCH, Head of Bioresources, Austrian Institute of Technology, Austria: The hidden world within plants: ecological considerations and functioning of microbial endophytes
- PATRICK SCHWEIZER, Group Leader, Pathogen-Stress Genomics, Leibniz-Insitut für Pflanzengenetik und Kulturpflanzenforschung (IPK), Germany: Genes and alleles for durable resistance of barley to powdery mildew
- SOFIE VANTHOURNOUT, Director, Sense about Science EU, Belgium: PANEL DISCUSSION: The potential impact of gene editing on global food security
- JOHNATHAN NAPIER, Professor and Associate Director for Research, Rothamsted Research, UK: Metabolic engineering of transgenic Camelina for the sustainable production of omega-3 fish oils
- YINPING JIAO, Research Associate, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and USDA-ARS, USA: EARLY CAREER RESEARCHER PRESENTATION: The complex sequence landscape of maize revealed by single molecule technologies
- GERCO ANGENENT, Professor and Group Leader, Plant Developmental Systems, Wageningen University, The Netherlands: Histone modifications control temperatureinduced alternative splicing and flowering in Arabidopsis

The 2018 agenda will be available in Autumn 2017. If you are interest in presenting or would like to propose a new topic then please contact:
