It's an interesting time for the European starch market with availability of affordable sugar flooding the markets, plus a growing demand for organic starches as well as potato starch. The EU implemented a new regulation on acrylamide affecting the bakery and snacks sectors (came into effect in April 2018) while last year, the European and Food Safety Authority (EFSA) authorised 12 modified starches that could be used as food additives. The trend is heavily titling on clean laels and healthier choices in the EU.

At CMT's 3rd Starch World Europe on 09-10 October, 2018 in Strasbourg, France the key highlights include:
New value added streams for starch producers including new biobased products
Growing trends in functional native starch
Impact of the post sugar quota
New starch capacities in Eastern Europe
Present status of Acrylamide in food & regulatory perspective
