BTL & Bio-Based Chemicals conference explores complete BTL production chain, new projects & commercial viability for processing biobased products

The BTL & Bio-Based Chemicals conference convenes in Rotterdam from 6-7 October, 2010 to explore the growing trend towards integrated biorefinery with production of chemicals being an important part of the economics.

The BTL & Bio-Based Chemicals is a showcase of key experts who are already in the field, technology companies, researchers and investors from all over the world, presenting new perspectives on the latest technology advancements, new capabilities and improved BTL economics.

The conference in Rotterdam includes an optional site visit to the ECN Petten Facility where there will be a complete BTL production chain tour. Following that, participants will be taken on a trip to the lab-and-pilot scale MILENA indirect biomass gasifiers, (25 kWth resp. 800 kWth) which have been now specifically tailored for the synthesis of Substitute Natural Gas (SNG); they get to witness the 2 gasifiers which are equipped with the commercially available OLGA tar scrubbing technology and further gas cleaning equipment.

In addition, there will also be a visit to the entrained flow research facilities which include the pilot-scale torrefaction plant (PATRIG) and the lab-scale gasification simulator.

Other than the optional site visit, the 2-day conference will explore ongoing and upcoming BTL Projects & Commercial Deployments and spotlight on the Bure Saudron Project – the first BTL Project using external hydrogen to boost biofuels yields – as well as the technologies of GTL.F1/Lurgi making Bure possible.

The Bure Saudron Project showcases the demonstration of a complete BTL production chain: gathering and conditioning of the biomass, gasification, gas processing and conversion to synthetic fuel via the Fischer-Tropsch process. It is intended to provide the experience necessary for the establishment of a BTL sector, both for process integration techniques and for the definition of a regional economic model.

Currently, a limitation of BTL processing is the mass yield of the end products. The Bure Saudron project will experiment with a novel solution to increase process efficiency – the ratio of hydrogen to carbon monoxide generated during the synthesis stage of the fuel will be greatly enhanced by the external input of hydrogen. This innovation will be a world first, according to CEA.

Those seeking more insights on latest developments on Bure Saudron project will be pleased to know that BTL & Bio-Based Chemicals conference has invited CEA to speak on the ‘First BTL project in France using external hydrogen to boost biofuels yields’.

BTL & Bio-Based Chemicals conference is now accepting registrations and enquiries on sponsorship packages, media partnerships and exhibition space. For further enquiries, please contact Miss Hafizah at hafizah@cmtsp.com.sg.
