Good Morning everybody, welcome to “CAC India Summit”.

On behalf of Pesticides Manufacturers & Formulators Association of India (PMFAI) and CCPIT Sub Council of Chemical Industry, China, I would like to welcome

 Our Chief Guest Mr. P. D. Watharkar, Director – Planning and Agri-Processing, Dept. of Agriculture, Maharashtra

 Our Eminent Speakers

 Sponsors

 Ms. Ma Chunyan, Deputy Secretary General and other officials from CCPIT; and

 All Distinguished Guests and Delegates to “CAC India Summit”

PMFAI is a non profit making organization, representing the agrochemical industry in India with more than 200 companies as its members.  PMFAI has played an important role in Indian Agriculture and in protecting the interests of Indian Agrochemical Industry.  As most of you are aware, PMFAI has always been promoting and protecting the interests of Agrochemical Industry in India and the results are visible in that ---- Indian exports valuing US$ 60 million in 1997, reached to US $ 1.8 billion in 2009. PMFAI promote exports.

CCPIT Sub-Council of Chemical Industry, China is a Council promoting trade, economic and technology cooperation between China and the rest of the world.

PMFAI and CCPIT has come together to organize this first CAC SUMMIT in India and we are pleased to see the overwhelming response, which encourage to make it an annual event in India.  I am sure the event will provide an excellent trade platform to the agrochemical and allied chemical industry.

The objective of this event is to promote better understanding on India and China’s registration requirements, market scenario, manufacturing, investment policy and environment as also to promote the bilateral trade as well as joint venture investment.

Crop Protection chemicals (pesticides) industry has been playing an important role in agriculture and its role is very key in increasing food productivity, to feed the fast growing population of the world.  The world is already reeling under shortage of food and need of the hour is to increase agriculture production to meet the demand of current trends as well as the demands of increasing population to ensure food security

The biggest challenge before the world is “Climate Change” which is adding to the already existing complex pest and disease scenario.  Adopting modern agronomic practices are the need of the hour. Agrochemical industry has a great role in this.

There is lot of scope for the pesticide industry in India and China for joint research & development programs and joint-investment, which can result in ample business opportunities.  I hope CAC India Summit will provide a platform for the same. This is also a learning process, we have to learn a lot from China.

Production of food grains, fruits and vegetables is 1100 million tons in China – compared to India’s 410 million tons.  We have 20% more agricultural land, more irrigation facility and more sunny days than China.  Average size of lands in China is 0.4 ha against India’s 1.4 ha.  China uses superior seeds, 250% more fertilizers and 300% more pesticides than India.

As everyone knows Great Wall is 9000 or so kilo meters long.  But do you know, the network of Highways in China in 2004 – 1.87 million kilo meters.

The Learned Speakers of “CAC India Summit” will give you the best guidance on the subjects.

Once again, I convey my sincere thanks to all the participants for wholehearted support and participation in the event and wish good luck for their business meetings over the next two days and a pleasant stay in Mumbai.

Jai Hind.

Thank you

Pradip Dave
