The International Hybrid Rice Symposium (IHRS) is a quadrennial event convened by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in partnership with a host country that provides an international discussion platform on hybrid rice development. The event brings together public institutions and private organizations from different countries engaged in hybrid rice research and development.
The last International Hybrid Rice Symposium was held at Taj Krishna Hotel, Hyderabad, India on September 2012 hosted by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR), jointly organized by the International Rice Research (IRRI) and Directorate of Rice Research (DRR). It was attended by 440 leading hybrid rice researchers, representatives from public and private organizations, and industry experts from 32 countries. The symposium discussed future rice strategies and reviewed current knowledge on hybrid rice development, seed production, molecular applications, crop and resource management, and economics.
