The BCPC Congress 2016

Changes in European Agriculture - How the Regulatory Environment Might Adapt

A look into the future of European arable agriculture, pests, diseases and weeds and how the regulatory environment will need to change.

This year’s Congress offers a programme of presentations, Q&A sessions, panel discussions and a CRD workshop covering existing and future regulatory challenges.

On day one representatives from all three EU zones will update delegates on progress and the challenges in working with Regulation 1107/2009. To keep delegates engaged after lunch, a more interactive chaired session is offered with industry-based panellists working to the theme of a ‘wish list’ in the regulation of pesticides. In parallel, we have a range of technical regulatory science highlights in the fields of environmental and human health, from neonicotinoids to state-of-the art developments in risk assessment approaches. The final plenary of the day is a session on voluntary initiatives as alternatives to, or working alongside, regulation. Expect quality presentations from a grower, BASF and Thames Water. At the end of the day, the UK Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD), Health and Safety Executive will run a workshop enabling delegates to engage directly with senior representatives. Further details to follow shortly.

On day two, the theme of the Congress strengthens looking at how European arable agriculture will change (climate change, population pressure), the consequent changes in pests, diseases and weeds and how we will need to adapt control measures and their regulation. In parallel we continue with regulatory science (making these technical topics accessible to a more generalist audience) and introduce a session on biopesticides and IPM.

All our presentations will be delivered by experts in their field and delegates will have ample opportunity in Q&A sessions and at breaks to meet colleagues, experts and suppliers of services to the industry.

In the event of the UK exiting the EU, await an exciting set of opinions and presentations to add to the rich mix of topics that we hope characterises this event for the regulatory community.
